The Virgin Suicide back cover illustration

The Virgin Suicide Back Cover..
Watercolour & Ink on Stonehenge paper + digital manipulation

First of all, i loved working with watercolour on stonehenge paper...

i was inspired by Jessie M. King for this piece (<3<3<3)
I really wanted to use her worn out colours for this project
but when i painted this it at first, the colours were too saturated
despite my effort to tone them down
so i had to do some adjustments on photoshop to achieve this.

I also did front cover and spine for this book as well
however i didn't feel like putting those up..............

I am scared to show this to my prof since she doesn't seem to like anything i do (T_T)
but i thought this image itself was 'okay' to look at (apart from concept)

The front cover is an illustration of floral hanging rope(?)
so it is kind of related to this image where the girl is pulling floral rope.
My peers suggested the rope should be tight
but i just made it loose and flowy(?) just for the look of this.
and i am scared that everyone might say crap about it T_T

but then i thought
Who would actually give a shit about concept of a book 'cover' -_-
I never think about what the 'cover' means when i buy a book!
It's all good as long as the cover looks attractive no matter what it is about...

actually, this is my honest opinion on most of illustrations..
people will read the article instead of trying to figure out what the illustration means.
pretty illustrations draw people's attention more than crappy ones with good concept.
sadly, most people aren't smart enough to get the idea behind things...
or maybe they just don't bother thinking about it at all.
(except for us...)

honestly when it comes to concept, i have completely lost confidence
(in illustration 4 course only)
i used to talk my profs into approving my favourite ideas
but in this class i am extremely terrified of my prof and i can't even talk properly...

Anyway...
If anyone says shit about my work tomorrow, i really want to tell them
'don't judge a book by its cover'
LOL

The Happening Custom DVD Cover

The Happening DVD Cover
Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator CS5
13cm x 18.4cm

M. Night Shyamalan has always been my favourite movie director since 'The Sixth Sense'.
Since my prof banned students from doing Star Wars, His movies were my first choice.
I actually struggled between 'Signs' and 'The Happening',
but finally decided to go with the latter
because of a striking scene i remembered from the movie.

i have mixed feelings about this piece,
I do think this cover is a bit too cute for the content of this movie..lol
The scene i chose to illustrate was, as i mentioned above, striking
however this cover looks somewhat peaceful....

and i wish i had used my original analog line work for the ladders and people,
sadly, i was confused with my last year's media studio class
i thought i wasn't allowed to use anything hand drawn.....
(i found out that we can use analog drawing for lineworks after i finished.)

I like the colour scheme
The hand drawn lettering turned out better than i thought as well.
(usually, my handwriting looks horrible)

I still i think i could have done so much better if i wasn't restricted to working digitally...

Royal(?!) Plates +_+

Royal(?!) Plate Series :)

These are series of plates I designed for my illustration class.
I illustrated portraits of 4 English Queens,
I also incorporated some weird facts about these ladies into my designs.

Plate 1. Queen 'Bloody' Mary I suffered from phantom pregnancy.

Plate 2. Queen Elizabeth I had black teeth due to overconsumption of sugar.

Plate 3. Queen Victoria only wore black dress after her husband's death.
(although not really a black dress in this design....)

Plate 4. Queen Elizabeth II...seems like she's never going to pass away .......
(that's why she looks like a doll-like figure in here)

These are ALL done digitally.
The initial sketches are hand drawn but i did all the line works again on photoshop.

I am not entirely confident with my concept since I missed a class
and my prof didn't bother replying to my email that i had sent for some feedback.

Like always... I hate these...
but this time, except for the Queen Elizabeth I plate.
Surprisingly i am quiet happy with how it turned out.
I spent more time illustrating her than any other queens.
(started last week...)
I wish i had invested more time on each one of these instead of trying to finish
3 of the 4 plates in like 8 hours T_T
The other reason why Queen Elizabeth I plate seems more successful than others is
because I did a brief colour study before I went into actual colouring.

The thing I hate the most is the baby that Mary I is holding.
Sadly, I just couldn't figure out how to illustrate it.

However, Although I hated this project (because i hate this course),
I learned a great deal about doing line works on computer
which I think was totally worthwhile.

Also I realized I can actually produce something I like if I spend more time on stuff...LOL

Anywayz.............
It's like 5:40 am right now,
and my eyeballs are about to pop out
after working for about 20 hours straight (thanks to my laziness T_T)
But I have to get ready for school in an hour :) :) :) :) :)

Life is gooooood +_+

#021612

#021612
400 x 600 (pixel)
Adobe Photoshop CS5

From now on... (i know i said this many times in the past T_T)

I swear i will try to post something on my blog regularly...

So far, i have only uploaded finished artworks
but i decided to post my sketches and simple photoshop doodles as well.
However, i'm not planning on posting process work of any kind.
(like anybody gives a shit lol)

Also, i decided not to act so serious and professional in this blog,
i was originally hoping to use this blog as part of self-promotion
but i realized that i won't even have a client for a while
and i'm probably the only one who visit this blog
so i'm just going to shamelessly post whatever i want to show off.

when i think i am ready, i am planning to use a website instead of a blog.

Anyway,
This mini digital doodle i did is called #021612
and it doesn't mean anything lol

I will post some more meaningless doodles and sketches i did in the past.
(hopefully....)

St.Lucifer's Academy

St.Lucifer's Academy Cover/ Information page/ Title page/ Back cover
Ink + watercolor + photoshop

This is the very last project of this semester+_+

St.Lucifer's Academy is a story i made up several months ago.
The characters were already designed last summer during my reading pop culture class.
i'm still trying to bring things more solid.
I'm hoping that this really goes somewhere...

Since i'm not a good writer... i'm not sure if i should make it into a book,
I'm not sure about graphic novel either... maybe i'll do that idk
i was thinking maybe i can do webtoon kind of thing but ~_~ i suck at digital painting so..
for now nothing's certain;
I'm not really much of a narrative art(?) person.......

But yeah these are just for my school projects :)
if i had to do a real book cover...
then i would not start working on it the night before. lol

Earth Day Teddy Bear Poster...

Teddy needs love! (earth day poster illustration)
10"x20", gouache on illustration board

This is an illustration for earth day poster.
At first my prof didn't approve of my teddy bear idea
but i managed to persuade him ;).
He said during the critique that i totally sold the idea to him lol
and he liked my work at the and and gave me an A
I really enjoyed working on this too.

The concept is simple : Embrace nature like we embrace teddy bears!
I really tried hard to think of something unconventional for an earth day poster
but still maintain some traditional nature elements.
So i painted this giant teddy bear made of plant. lol

this is my first gouache piece in like 2 years or so but i realized again how awesome medium it is...
This became one of my favorites ;D

Galaxy Express 999 Vignette Illustrations...

Galaxy Express 999 Vignette Illustrations +_+!

Tetsuro & his mommy +_+

'

Count Mecha ~_~
(I actually really like this one +_+)

Ink & Gouache Resistance technique on watercolour paper
i'm not sure what sizes they are...

Anyway, I did 3 vignettes, 2 of them are shown above, and the other one isn't.
It's because i hate it lol
This was the very first time for me to do vignettes, so there were many things
that i had to keep in mind unlike a full page illustration...

And just like before, editing this on computer was pain in my ass....
Being this my first time doing a vignette, i kind of screwed up on the whole layout :x
I had to pre plan things more before i start painting the actually vignettes;
because later on one of them (which i didn't post) did not fit, so i had to scale it down
and it looks absolutely horrible....
but i am glad i screwed up
because i struggled so much with this that i actually learned something new...
